Smyth sewing is a process of sewing threads through punched signature folds to create a strong and durable spine. For hard or casebound applications, the book signatures are folded on top of one another, sewn, and then glued to covers using endsheets. Smyth sewn books are designed to take prolonged stress ad remain intact through its lifetime. The bindery floor at Midwest Editions boasts three automated smyth sewing machines to provide optimum strength and durability for all types of projects in a variety of sizes.
